Zoom Alternatives: Top 4 Video Conferencing Tools for your LMS

How many times did you have a video meeting last week?
At eCreators, our slowest day would still require at least 1-2 video meetings a day – that’s 5-10 times in a quiet week (and we’re not having any quiet weeks!).

Zoom has seen a spike in users from 200 million to 300 million in a matter of days since the pandemic. No doubt, Zoom is one of the most used and accessed video conferencing tool for schools and organisations everywhere.

But just because it is the most popular, doesn’t make it the best option for your organisation.

“We’ve been getting a lot of questions from our clients whether Zoom is the only available option to use for their video conferences and meetings”, Prathiba Sugumar, Customer Education Officer at eCreators.

“The Zoom free tier only allows up to 40 minutes a session, which won’t work in most scenarios for our customers in the education sector and other training organisations”. Having said that, Zoom is definitely one of the most affordable options out there.

However, if you’re still wondering about alternative solutions, here’s what we’ve heard from our clients lately.

GOOGLE HANGOUTS

Another one of the most commonly used video tools right now. It is easy, and it comes with your Gmail (we use it a lot ourselves).
You can also share screens making it great for the workplace. Google has also made the premium features free until September 30, 2020, to help businesses and schools around the world. One of those features includes having up to 250 participants per call.

BIG BLUE BUTTON

It’s designed for an LMS, so it’s effortless to integrate. It also has a Whiteboard feature where presenters also can zoom, highlight, draw and write on presentations, making your points clearer to remote students. Another highlight is Breakout Rooms where you can separate your learners into groups – perfect for collaboration work.

MICROSOFT TEAMS

Great to use if your organisation is already using Office 365. It works the same way as Google Hangouts. You can send private chats, have video calls (up to 250 people at once!) and present live up to 10,000 people. The interface itself looks a lot like Slack, so if you are familiar with that tool already, this is a piece of cake!

WARPWIRE VIDEO

Our friend and partner in the US! Warpwire makes it easy to capture and manage video within learning environments (your LMS) and delivers insight into the way communities engage with content. They are very popular amongst Universities and organisations that require high-security protection for their content.

They also have Live Broadcast functionality and integrate with Zoom. Sound complicated? Rest assured, their interface looks very similar to Youtube, which makes it very easy for users to understand.
